Bayern Munich's Konrad Laimer Suffers Injury Scare in Pre-Season Match
Konrad Laimer gave Bayern Munich a worrying moment in their pre-season outing as the Austria international limped off early with an apparent right leg injury.
The midfielder went down after a challenge, immediately clutching his leg. Replays offered little clarity. Knee, thigh, or both – the pictures did not settle the question – but his reaction told its own story.
Laimer was clearly in significant pain. Two Bayern staff members had to support him as he left the pitch, his right leg quickly wrapped in bandages on the touchline before he disappeared down the tunnel.
Vincent Kompany moved fast. With just nine minutes played, the Bayern coach turned to Sacha Boey, sending on the French full-back who, despite his appearance here, is still widely expected to leave the club before the transfer window closes.
The injury scare comes at an awkward time for Bayern. This clash with last season’s third-placed Bundesliga side is their penultimate friendly before the Super Cup showdown with Borussia Dortmund on Saturday week. After that, the German record champions face 1. FC Heidenheim from the second tier on Tuesday.
The countdown to the first trophy of the season has started. Bayern will now wait anxiously to discover how badly one of their key midfielders has been hurt.
