Bellamy Out of Burnley Manager Race as Search Continues
Craig Bellamy will not be the man in the Burnley dugout next season, with the Wales manager’s proposed move to Turf Moor collapsing before it ever reached the final stage, according to reports.
The former Premier League forward had drawn a clear line over one job already, publicly ruling himself out of leaving the Wales post for Celtic. Burnley, though, looked different. Recently relegated, familiar surroundings, a club he knew from the inside. This was a door he seemed willing to at least leave ajar.
That door has now slammed shut.
Sky Sports News report that Burnley have moved on, redirecting their search towards other candidates. Steve Cooper is among the names under consideration, as is Rob Edwards, who was recently dismissed by Wolverhampton Wanderers. The shortlist is being reshaped at pace, with Bellamy no longer in the frame.
His connection to the club ran deeper than speculation. Bellamy previously worked on the Burnley staff as Vincent Kompany’s assistant, helping to build the bold, possession-heavy side that stormed out of the Championship before falling short in the Premier League. When Kompany left for Bayern Munich, it was natural that Bellamy’s name would surface as a potential successor.
Burnley now have to get this appointment right.
Since the 2021/22 season, the Lancashire club have bounced between the Premier League and Championship, never quite able to plant their feet and stay there. The next manager will inherit a squad and a fanbase tired of the yo-yo, desperate for stability in the top flight rather than another swing of the pendulum.
Bellamy stays with Wales. Burnley look elsewhere. The question now is simple: who can finally break the cycle?
