Benjamin Sesko has pulled out of Slovenia’s Nations League squad as Manchester United’s early-season problems deepen.

The 23-year-old striker missed Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Fulham after suffering a shin injury in last week’s League Cup defeat to Brighton. The issue has now ruled him out of Slovenia’s upcoming fixtures, stripping both club and country of a key attacking option at a delicate moment in the season.

United confirmed the news on Monday, outlining the next steps for their summer signing.

“Manchester United can confirm that Benjamin Sesko has withdrawn from the Slovenia squad ahead of the upcoming three-week international break,” the club said. “Benjamin will undergo tests this week before defining his individual recovery plan.”

Sesko is set to miss two matches against Scotland as well as games against North Macedonia and Switzerland, a significant blow for a Slovenia side that has leaned on his physical presence and movement in behind. For United, it is another unwanted entry on an already growing injury list.

He becomes the fourth United player to withdraw from international duty in a single day. Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo have both dropped out of the England squad, while Karl Darlow has left the Wales camp, underlining the strain on Michael Carrick’s squad.

Sesko has scored two goals for United this season, offering flashes of the penalty-box instinct that persuaded the club to move for him. His absence now leaves Carrick with fewer options as he tries to steady a faltering start.
