Fernandes (£12.0m) faces promoted Ipswich Town at home on Sunday, and his record in front of his own fans last season was devastating. No player scored more points in home matches. When United walked out at Old Trafford, Fernandes delivered.

Strip away the fear of going against Haaland and the answer is clear.

Fernandes, at home to Ipswich, has to be backed to outscore the Norwegian this Gameweek. His Old Trafford record is simply too strong to ignore, his role too central, his output too reliable.

Behind him, Odegaard and Palmer emerge as serious contenders. Both have form, both have appealing fixtures, but the trip to a wounded Villa just gives the Arsenal captain a slight edge for those looking beyond the obvious names.

Haaland will still carry the bulk of the armbands. He almost always does.
