Days after European disappointment, the Colombian striker stepped into his favoured centre-forward role and struck twice in 29 ruthless minutes to set up a 2-1 win over Falkirk, offering a measure of relief to a restless support.

With Kasper Hogh injured, Duran led the line and wasted no time justifying the manager’s faith. His movement was sharp, his finishing sharper. Both goals were classic centre-forward strikes, the kind Celtic demand from anyone wearing that shirt. He didn’t just score, either. Duran repeatedly slipped team-mates into promising positions, turning Falkirk’s back line again and again as Celtic carved out a string of first-half chances.

Those chances should have killed the contest before the interval. They didn’t. Celtic’s profligacy kept Falkirk alive.
