Diego Simeone Addresses Atlético Madrid's Challenges Ahead of Osasuna Match

Diego Simeone walked into the press room on Tuesday with the look of a man who has heard enough. On the eve of Atlético Madrid’s home clash with Osasuna, the Argentine did not dodge the questions, nor the criticism swirling around his team. He went straight at both.

No Julian Álvarez for Osasuna

The first issue was the one every Atlético fan wanted cleared up: Julian Álvarez. Would the striker make it back in time?

“Based on what we discussed with the medical staff, he is still in the recovery phase, and he will not be available for tomorrow's match,” Simeone confirmed, as relayed by Spanish outlet Marca. No suspense, no half-promises. Álvarez is out.

There was a lighter moment. Asked about José Mourinho’s surprise that journalists had not questioned him on the penalties awarded to Barcelona and Atlético Madrid, Simeone refused to be dragged into the storm.

With a laugh, he answered: “I have nothing to say or comment on.”

On the Ballon d'Or, though, he did not hesitate. No balancing act, no long list of candidates.

“Messi, without the slightest doubt. After the World Cup he delivered and at this age? Messi without the slightest doubt,” he said.

The Atlético coach closed by circling back to the rhythm of the season, including an unusually long pause in the schedule.

“Stopping for three weeks is something new, but we try to adapt to everything. The players have the complete desire, and this is part of the game, and we are in the place we chose to be in,” he reflected.

Atlético go into the Osasuna game sitting fifth in La Liga on 10 points, with three wins, one draw and one defeat. The table says they are in the pack. The performances say they are still searching.
