Feyenoord Fans Cause Injuries at SC Cambuur Match

SC Cambuur say supporters suffered “burns, hearing damage and eye injuries” after Feyenoord fans hurled fireworks into home sections during Sunday’s league match at the Kooi Stadion.

The game was halted for around 10 minutes in the first half when a mass of red flares lit up the away end and fireworks were launched from the Feyenoord section. Some were fired towards areas packed with Cambuur fans. The atmosphere, already fierce, turned hostile in seconds.

Cambuur later confirmed that five home supporters were injured in the incident. The club detailed the damage in a stark statement, underlining the seriousness of what unfolded in the stands rather than on the pitch.

Feyenoord moved quickly to condemn their own fans. The club said it “firmly distances itself from the unacceptable events” and revealed that head coach Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who worked as Arne Slot’s assistant at Liverpool last season, personally apologised to SC Cambuur after the final whistle.

Cambuur’s stance left little room for debate.

“It should be clear that setting off and firing fireworks is completely unacceptable and has no place in a football stadium whatsoever,” the club said, calling out the behaviour as a direct threat to supporter safety, not just a disciplinary issue.

The Friesland side, promoted back to the Eredivisie last season after three years in the second tier, now face a different kind of battle. They have pledged to work with local authorities to identify and punish those responsible, pushing for tangible consequences rather than just statements of regret.

Feyenoord, for their part, said they will request camera footage to help track down the culprits. The pictures from the away end are expected to play a central role in whatever comes next.
