Harding Lady Bisons Fall to Washburn 2-0 in Scoreless First Half Match

SEARCY, Ark. — Harding’s early-season habit of grinding out scoreless first halves held up again on Sunday. The result did not.

Locked at 0-0 through the break for a fifth straight match, the Lady Bisons saw unbeaten Washburn strike twice in quick succession after halftime to hand them a 2-0 defeat at the Stevens Soccer Complex.

For 45 minutes, Harding (1-2-2) absorbed wave after wave from an assertive Ichabods attack. Washburn came out on the front foot, pressed high, and asked constant questions of the back line, but the Lady Bisons met each one with blocks, clearances, and timely challenges to keep the match level heading into the locker room.

Second Half

That resistance didn’t last long after the restart.

Washburn finally broke through in the 57th minute, turning a second-half opening into the game’s first goal and a 1-0 advantage. Before Harding could fully reset, the visitors struck again just a minute later, adding an insurance goal in the 58th to seize control and quiet the home crowd.

Harding tried to answer on the counter, looking to spring forward quickly whenever they won the ball. They found moments, but not the finish. Washburn’s back line stayed organized, cut out passes in dangerous areas, and protected the lead the rest of the way.

The shot totals reflected the tight margins. Washburn outshot Harding 16-13 overall, with both sides generating eight attempts in an open, back-and-forth second half.

Now the non-conference tune-up phase is over. Harding turns immediately to Great American Conference play, heading to East Central on Wednesday in Ada, Oklahoma, for a 3 p.m. kickoff and an early chance to reset the story of their season.
