Harry Wilson's Injury Impact on Wales' Nations League Campaign
Harry Wilson is facing a race against time to be fit for the start of Wales’ Nations League campaign after suffering a quadriceps injury with Leeds United.
The 29-year-old forward had been named in Craig Bellamy’s squad for a demanding return to League A, with fixtures against Portugal, Denmark and Norway lined up across September and October. Those plans have been hit hard.
Leeds boss Daniel Farke confirmed on Friday that Wilson has picked up a muscle problem that will keep him out of Sunday’s Premier League clash at Elland Road against Crystal Palace.
“Harry Wilson is out of this game, a quad injury, he reported some problems after the last game and also during this training week,” Farke said of the 69-cap international, who has scored 17 times for his country.
The concern does not stop at club level. Farke admitted the issue is likely to drag into the international window, casting serious doubt over Wilson’s involvement as Wales step back into Europe’s elite.
“He will also probably miss the Welsh games, so definitely not good news for him and also not for the Welsh team.”
For Bellamy, who is shaping his first major campaign in charge and leaning on experienced figures, the timing could hardly be worse. For Wales, the question now is simple: who steps up if one of their most reliable attacking outlets cannot make it?
