Hibernian's Home Form: David Gray Remains Unfazed

Hibernian’s home form is on the floor, but David Gray is refusing to panic.

Five straight Scottish Premiership defeats at Easter Road would rattle most head coaches. Gray, though, is staring straight past the statistic and into a pivotal week that could reshape the story of Hibs’ season.

On Tuesday night, Kilmarnock return to Leith (19:45 BST), the last league visitors Hibs actually put away at home. That was back in April, a 3-0 win over the Rugby Park side that now feels a long way off. Since then, Easter Road has become unforgiving territory for the hosts: losses to Hearts twice, Motherwell twice and Celtic have stripped away the aura of a difficult away day.

Gray, though, is not buying the idea that his team are crumbling.

“Big chance here, two home games to get into this international break in a really strong position,” he said, looking at Kilmarnock on Tuesday and Aberdeen on Saturday as a double-header that can flip the narrative.

He insists the performances have not matched the bleakness of the results.

“There have been some really positive performances at home. It’s definitely in us,” he said, pushing back at the numbers being thrown at him.

For Gray, the debate over form and momentum boils down to something much simpler.

“You can find a stat to drive whatever narrative you’re looking for. I look at them all in isolation, in games. The only stat, the only thing that matters, is that score in the top corner of the screen when it’s on the telly.”

That’s the challenge now. Turn decent spells into decisive scorelines. Turn Easter Road back into a place where Hibs expect to win, not hope to.

“For us to be successful, you need strong home form and we’ve got a chance, with back-to-back games, to try and put that right,” Gray added.

Two matches. One stadium. A bruised record on the line. By the time the international break arrives, Hibs will know whether this was the moment their home form finally turned – or the point the alarm bells really started to ring.
