Inter Faces Udinese Without Calhanoglu Due to Fatigue
Inter head into Monday night’s Serie A meeting with Udinese without one of their key reference points. Cristian Chivu has left Hakan Calhanoglu out of the matchday squad, with pre-match reports confirming the midfielder is dealing with muscular fatigue in the adductor area.
The absence removes Inter’s usual metronome at the base of midfield on a night that already feels busy for Serie A, with Torino vs. Roma and Como vs. Parma also on the schedule.
Calhanoglu ruled out, Roma in doubt
Calhanoglu’s name was missing when the Inter squad list dropped ahead of the Udinese game, and Gianluca Di Marzio reported that adductor fatigue is the cause. Inter are treating it as a minor issue rather than a serious injury, but it arrives at an awkward time in the schedule.
The club will monitor him day by day. For now, there is no guarantee he will be ready for Saturday evening’s league meeting with Roma, a fixture that demands full strength in the middle of the pitch.
Chivu reshapes the midfield
With Calhanoglu unavailable, Chivu has been forced to redraw his midfield. Inter will start with a trio of Nicolo Barella, Piotr Zielinski and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, a unit that offers craft, energy and experience but a different balance.
Zielinski is set to occupy the deepest role, stepping into the position Calhanoglu usually owns, tasked with launching attacks and protecting the back line in equal measure. How smoothly he can assume that responsibility may say plenty about how Inter navigate the days leading up to Roma.
