IUP vs Clarion: Morgan's Efforts Lead to 2-2 Draw

INDIANA, Pa. – IUP threw everything at Clarion. The scoreboard never quite caught up.

Kat Morgan struck twice, including a second-half equalizer, as the Crimson Hawks dominated territory and chances but had to settle for a 2-2 draw Saturday afternoon at South Campus Field.

Morgan sets the tone, Clarion hits back

IUP came out sharp and on the front foot. The breakthrough arrived early, Morgan slipping into space in the ninth minute and finishing after a neat setup from Melody Leiva to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.

That control didn’t last long on the scoresheet.

Clarion answered six minutes later, punishing one of its rare early openings when Leah Deal leveled the match in the 15th minute. Suddenly, a game IUP had gripped from the start was back to even.

The Golden Eagles then flipped it on its head. In the 30th minute, Sofia Barba found the net to hand Clarion a 2-1 advantage, and IUP – despite carrying most of the play – walked into halftime chasing the game.

One-way traffic after the break

The second half turned into a siege.

IUP outshot Clarion 8-0 over the final 45 minutes and finished with a 14-3 edge in total attempts. Every corner kick in the match – all six of them – belonged to the Crimson Hawks. They pressed higher, moved the ball quicker, and kept Clarion pinned deep.

The pressure finally told in the 74th minute.

Morgan, already on the scoresheet, delivered again, tucking away her second of the afternoon to drag IUP level at 2-2. She made the most of her chances: four shots, all on target, two in the back of the net.

Clarion bent but did not break. Goalkeeper Sage Sherk stood up to the onslaught, recording seven saves as IUP repeatedly tested the Golden Eagles’ back line.

Numbers tell the story, not the result

Leiva, busy throughout, finished with three shots to go with her assist. Ayla Cook and Charlotte De Keukelaere each registered two attempts, while Zoe Ans-Bitchoka and Avery Clanton also forced Sherk into action with efforts on goal.

At the other end, junior goalkeeper Sarah Gatz played the full 90 minutes for IUP. Clarion managed just two shots on frame – and scored with both.

The draw nudges IUP to 1-2-3 overall and 1-2-2 in PSAC play. Clarion moves to 3-1-2 overall and 2-1-2 in the conference, leaving one lingering question after a lopsided stat sheet in Indiana: how long can the Crimson Hawks keep playing like this without turning dominance into wins?
