Jaissle Provides Newcastle Injury Update and Transfer Insights

Newcastle United may have lost 3-1 to Everton in Edinburgh, but Matthias Jaissle walked away from the pre-season friendly with a far more important result in his pocket: his injury list is finally starting to clear.

The head coach delivered a notably upbeat bulletin on Fabian Schär, Tino Livramento and Lewis Miley, with all three edging closer to a return.

Schär, out since January, is the closest. The experienced centre-back is now on the brink of rejoining full team training.

"He's on the way back now," Jaissle said after the defeat in Scotland. "Hopefully in the next days he will be included in the team training, and then we need to see if he gets some minutes already in the weekend."

For a squad that leaned heavily on Schär’s nous and distribution last season, that timeline matters. Newcastle’s back line has been stretched, and Jaissle knows the value of having his senior defender back in the mix before the real stuff starts.

The news on Livramento and Miley runs along the same encouraging track. Both are progressing, both are close, and both are now being pencilled in for a return to group work.

"A bit of the same, I would say, like with Fabian," Jaissle explained. "Also we're hoping that in the next days they can be integrated in the team sessions, and hopefully also will get some minutes then."

If that happens, Newcastle’s training ground will suddenly look a lot more like the squad Jaissle has been picturing all summer.

Transfers still on the agenda

Injured players returning is one thing. Fresh faces are another, and Jaissle did not shy away from that subject either.

The Newcastle boss stressed that the club remain active behind the scenes as the transfer window ticks on, even if he kept the details firmly in-house.

"I will be always consistent with my approach," he said. "We handle these things internally, we are aware of what we need, and as you know, there's still some time."

So the message is clear. Key players are on their way back, reinforcements are expected, and the squad taking shape now will not be the final version that kicks off the season. The question is how quickly Jaissle can knit it all together once those doors start swinging.
