Jamal Musiala's Health Update: Overcoming Neurological Challenges
Jamal Musiala says he is “doing well” after being diagnosed with a neurological issue that caused two alarming on‑field episodes in recent days.
The Bayern Munich midfielder addressed supporters directly on his Instagram channel after twice needing medical attention within four days.
Two scares in four days
Musiala first went down off the ball during Bayern’s friendly against RB Leipzig on Saturday, collapsing to the turf and sparking immediate concern. He was able to leave the pitch and later rejoined team activities, remaining in Vincent Kompany’s squad for the club’s final pre-season outing against Heidenheim on Tuesday.
But the worry returned. Introduced from the bench in the second half, the 21-year-old was forced off again only minutes later, this time walking away accompanied by Bayern’s medical staff.
The images spread quickly. So did the questions.
Musiala explains diagnosis
Musiala chose to take control of the narrative himself.
“First things first – I’m doing well. I’m especially grateful for all your messages and your support,” he wrote, before revealing the diagnosis: “I have been diagnosed with brief, temporary but readily treatable absences, which are caused by a neurological dysfunction.”
He explained that these “absences” were behind the recent episodes against Leipzig and Heidenheim, and accepted that the scenes “may seem scary at first glance” to those watching. For him, though, they have become “part of my everyday life”.
The Germany international stressed that he is under expert care and remains upbeat about his recovery. “I am receiving the best possible medical treatment for this and I am very optimistic. FC Bayern and the people close to me are always by my side and supporting me on this journey.”
Crucially, Musiala underlined that, according to the specialists, there is “no further health risk beyond this”.
Determined to keep playing
Despite the diagnosis, Musiala made it clear he wants to continue on the pitch.
“In close consultation and regular communication with the specialists, it was my personal wish to face this challenge and, with the approval of the neurological specialists, to continue doing what helps me most in my recovery: simply getting on with my everyday life and continuing to pursue my passion of playing football,” he wrote.
“I have taken responsibility for that decision. Overall, I have a very good feeling and I’m on the right track. What helps me most on this journey is continuing to chase victories and titles with my team, with your fantastic support.”
The message was both medical update and manifesto: a young star intent on confronting a problem without stepping away from the game that defines him.
A line drawn – and a boundary set
Musiala finished by asking for space as he deals with the condition alongside those closest to him.
“I hope this helps you understand me a little better. At the same time, I ask for your understanding that I would like to continue keeping this matter within the circle of my closest confidants, the club and the experts.”
Bayern’s season is only just beginning, and so is this unexpected chapter in Musiala’s career. How he manages it, and how often he can stay on the pitch chasing those “victories and titles”, will now be one of the quiet storylines running beneath the noise of another campaign in Munich.
