Jamal Musiala Addresses Health Concerns After Seizures

Jamal Musiala has revealed he is living with “treatable absence seizures” after collapsing on the pitch for the second time in four days, but insists there is no long-term risk to his health and no intention of stepping away from football.

The Bayern Munich winger went down just eight minutes after coming on as a substitute in a pre-season friendly against FC Heidenheim on Tuesday night. Medical staff rushed on as the 23-year-old lay on the turf, a jarring sight so soon after a similar incident in Saturday’s friendly against RB Leipzig.

This time, Musiala decided to address the growing concern head on.

In a detailed Instagram statement, the Germany international explained that specialists have diagnosed him with brief, temporary absence seizures caused by a neurological dysfunction, stressing that they are “treatable” and that he remains under close medical supervision.

“I am doing well. I am incredibly grateful for your messages and your support,” he wrote, before moving to calm fears among supporters. He said he understood why fans were worried after watching him collapse twice in quick succession, but wanted “to put those concerns to rest” and outline what he is dealing with.

Musiala said the seizures can trigger the kind of incidents seen against Leipzig and Heidenheim, acknowledging that the episodes “might look alarming at first glance” to those watching in the stadium or on television. For him, though, they have become part of his current everyday life.

He underlined that he is receiving “excellent medical care” and remains “very optimistic,” highlighting the backing of both FC Bayern and his personal support network as he navigates the condition.

Crucially, Musiala stressed that experts have assured him there is “no further health risk involved.” In consultation with neurologists, he has been given medical clearance to continue playing, and he made clear that the decision to carry on is his.

“It was my personal wish to face this challenge,” he wrote, explaining that continuing to live normally and playing football is, in his view, what helps his recovery most. “I have taken full responsibility for this decision. Overall, I feel very positive and am on the right track.”

Musiala framed his return to the pitch not as a gamble but as a part of his treatment, saying that what helps him most is “continuing to chase victories and titles” with Bayern, fuelled by the support of fans.

He also drew a firm line around how much more he wants to share. While he chose to go public to clarify the situation and ease speculation, he asked for understanding as he keeps the finer details private, restricted to his closest circle, the club, and the medical experts.

For Bayern and Germany, the message is clear: Musiala intends to keep playing, keep competing, and keep driving for trophies – with a new challenge to manage, but his ambitions unchanged.
