Manchester United Faces Injury Woes with Amad Diallo and Mason Mount
Manchester United’s bruising start to the new season has taken another hit, with Amad Diallo now facing a spell on the sidelines after picking up an injury in training.
A well-connected United source, speaking via UtdDistrict, has indicated that initial scans suggest the winger could be out for up to six weeks. It explains his absence from the travelling squad for the season opener at the MKM Stadium, where United slipped to a damaging defeat against newly promoted Hull City.
If that early prognosis holds, Amad may not feature until the beginning of October, ruling him out of several key fixtures at the start of the 2026/27 campaign. For a player hoping to turn pre-season promise into a meaningful role, the timing could hardly be worse.
Mount joins growing list of concerns
The blow comes on the back of confirmation that Mason Mount is also sidelined.
Mount suffered a hamstring problem in United’s pre-season clash with Paris Saint-Germain, an issue that kept him out of the remaining friendlies and Saturday’s loss at Hull. It adds another frustrating chapter to his United story, with the 27-year-old still waiting for a season in which he stays fully fit since arriving at the club in 2023.
Inside the club, there is at least some optimism that Mount’s setback is on the lighter side. His involvement in training over the coming days will be watched closely as United prepare for their Old Trafford curtain-raiser.
Treatment room filling up
Amad and Mount are not alone.
Matthijs de Ligt is still working his way back from the back injury that cut short his 2025/26 season in November. The Dutch defender remains unavailable as he continues his recovery, leaving United without a major defensive presence in the early weeks of the new campaign.
Carlos Baleba, whose move to United is edging towards completion, will also have to wait before making his mark. The midfielder picked up an ankle ligament injury during pre-season with Brighton and Hove Albion, meaning he will arrive already on the rehab trail rather than straight into the matchday squad.
Six days to reset before Old Trafford opener
United now have six days to regroup after the deflating defeat at Hull before stepping out at Old Trafford for the first time this season. Ipswich Town, another newly promoted side, visit on Sunday, and the mood around the squad will be under scrutiny.
Supporters will be looking for clarity in the coming days. An official update on Amad’s condition is expected from the club, while Mount’s training status will offer a hint as to whether he can be involved against Ipswich.
The season is barely underway, and already United’s plans are being rewritten by injuries. How quickly they adapt could define the tone of this campaign.
