Morgan Rogers: Premier League's Rising Star Attracts Manchester United

Jason Wilcox has identified his man.

The Manchester United technical director is described as a firm admirer of Aston Villa’s rising star Morgan Rogers and, according to talkSPORT, he is expected to drive United’s push to bring the forward to Old Trafford this summer.

United are not alone. Arsenal and Chelsea are also circling, weighing up moves for one of the Premier League’s most dynamic young attackers. Yet the landscape of English football in 2026 gives this chase a sharper edge.

Champions League leverage

Only two of that trio can offer the stage every ambitious forward craves next season. United and Arsenal are back in the Champions League; Chelsea are not. That reality could quickly thin the field.

Rogers does not need to leave Villa to hear the Champions League anthem. Unai Emery’s side, fresh from a Europa League triumph and a fourth-placed finish, have earned their place among Europe’s elite. Villa Park will host UCL nights again, and Rogers has already shown he belongs at that level.

But the mood around the player points towards a new challenge. After two-and-a-half impressive years in the Midlands, the 23-year-old is understood to be preparing for a move away from the club that helped turn him into one of the Premier League’s most influential forwards.

The numbers back it up: 125 appearances, 31 goals, 29 assists in all competitions for Villa. That is not a hot streak. That is a body of work.

Villa’s £80m question

A player with that output and that trajectory does not come cheap. Reports suggest Villa would look for around £80 million to even contemplate a sale, and a full-blown bidding war between heavyweight Premier League rivals could easily push the fee towards – or beyond – the £100m bracket.

Villa know what they have. A Player of the Season winner who lit up the Europa League, a key figure in a side that has smashed through its own glass ceiling. Selling him would be a statement. So would refusing to.

The Carrick connection

For United, the pitch almost writes itself.

A move to Old Trafford would reunite Rogers with Michael Carrick, the coach who helped shape his game at Middlesbrough. That familiarity matters. Carrick knows the player’s strengths, understands where to place him in a system, and how to coax more from him.

United can also offer a front line that suddenly looks dangerous again. Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha have all enjoyed outstanding first seasons in M16, giving the attack a sharper edge and a more modern profile. Rogers would not be arriving to carry a broken unit; he would be stepping into a revitalised one.

Then there is Bruno Fernandes. The most creative player in the Premier League right now, and statistically out on his own. The Portuguese playmaker has just moved past the assist record jointly held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne, registering his 21st of the league campaign on Sunday.

Any forward with ambition will look at that and smile. Space, service, and a No.10 who sees passes most players do not even attempt.

A decision that shapes careers

Rogers stands at the kind of crossroads that defines careers. Stay at Villa, where he is adored and central to a project that keeps punching upwards? Or jump into the glare of Old Trafford or the Emirates, where expectation is relentless and the ceiling, if you hit it, is even higher?

United can offer Champions League football, a manager who already knows his game, and a supporting cast built to feed and complement him. Arsenal can promise their own brand of slick, possession-heavy football and a title-chasing environment. Chelsea, without Europe’s top table to tempt him, may already be slipping out of the race.

One way or another, Aston Villa’s No. 1 summer storyline is taking shape. The price is high, the suitors are serious, and Morgan Rogers now has the chance to decide where he wants his prime years to play out.
