Musiala Returns to Bayern Squad for Schalke Clash

“He’s had a good, full week of training. Things are looking up for him, he’s doing well. We’ve already explained how we’re handling this. Jamal is in a good phase right now. We’ve been dealing with the situation for a while now,” Kompany said, outlining the club’s cautious but optimistic stance.

The Belgian underlined that Saturday’s involvement will be decided with the player, not just about him.

“We’ll see how he is in training today and then make the decision that’s best for Jamal and the team. Today we will make a decision with Jamal with regards to how he handles the training session,” he added.

One attacker will definitely not feature. Serge Gnabry has been ruled out for the trip, with Kompany targeting a return “hopefully next week” and stressing that the “main priority is that he feels well.”

The Germany international collapsed during a friendly win over 1. FC Heidenheim, an incident that immediately triggered concern given he had previously gone down during a Telekom Cup match against RB Leipzig. Two collapses, both public, both alarming.

Musiala later addressed the situation himself, explaining that he had been diagnosed with brief, temporary but easily treatable episodes of absence caused by a neurological dysfunction. The diagnosis allowed Bayern to move from panic to planning.

Kompany has been determined to strip away the drama around the condition. He has repeatedly highlighted the club’s medical readiness and urged that Musiala be treated as a footballer managing an issue, not defined by it.

In a recent briefing, he even played down the prospect of another episode.

If Musiala were to collapse again, Kompany said it would not be “a big deal” for the club as they now know how to respond. “If it does happen again in 40, 50, 60 days’ time or in 40, 50, 60 games’ time, then it’s no longer a big deal for us. We know how to deal with it and some stage he’s just going to be a totally normal athlete again,” he insisted.

The message is clear: Bayern are prepared, and they refuse to let fear dictate Musiala’s career.
