Nathan Broadhead Ruled Out of Wales’ Nations League Campaign

Nathan Broadhead has been ruled out of Wales’ upcoming Nations League campaign after suffering a thigh injury in training with Wrexham.

The 28-year-old forward, named in Craig Bellamy’s 28-man squad for top-tier Nations League A clashes with Portugal, Norway and a double header against Denmark, has been forced to withdraw and will also miss Wrexham’s Championship meeting with Southampton on Saturday (15:00 BST).

“Broady has strained his thigh in training, which is a shame because he was training well,” Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said. “That’s going to keep him out for the weekend but there’s nothing new from that.”

Pressed on whether the setback would rule Broadhead out of the Wales camp, Parkinson was blunt: “Yes.”

It is a frustrating twist for a 20-cap international who started Wrexham’s first three Championship games of the season but has since dropped out of the side, playing no part against Millwall, Swansea City, Burnley or West Ham United.

Upcoming Fixtures

For Bellamy, it means a reshuffle ahead of a demanding schedule. Wales open away to Portugal on 24 September, the first of four fixtures in an extended international window. They then head to Copenhagen to face Denmark, before World Cup quarter-finalists Norway visit Cardiff on 1 October. The window closes with a return match against the Danes on 4 October.

Wales will move on without Broadhead. The question now is who seizes the vacancy he has left behind.
