Nottingham Forest Seek First Points at Anfield

Nottingham Forest head to Anfield on Saturday still hunting their first points of the new Premier League season, but they do so with one important memory in their back pocket – they’ve won on each of their last two visits to this ground.

Oliver Glasner’s side opened the campaign with defeat to Leeds United and then slipped out of the Carabao Cup days later. The results have underlined what Glasner has been saying since he arrived: this is a rebuild, and it will take time. The early weeks are about knitting together a group that has barely met, never mind matured, while trying to compete with teams whose cores have been settled for years.

Forest team news and selection calls

There is at least some clarity on personnel. Nicolo Savona and Ryan Yates remain out through injury and will not feature. Beyond that, the picture is brighter.

Summer arrivals Ousmane Diomande and Xaver Schlager both made their full debuts in the Carabao Cup and did enough to put serious pressure on the established order. Both are pushing hard to keep their places, and Glasner has reported no fresh fitness problems from that midweek tie.

The shape looks familiar. Murillo, Nikola Milenković and Diomande are expected to form a powerful back three, with a hard‑running midfield four in front of them: Ola Aina on one flank, Neco Williams on the other, and the imposing pairing of Ibrahim Sangaré and Schlager patrolling the centre.

Higher up the pitch, the creative burden again falls on Morgan Gibbs-White. He has either scored or assisted in half of Forest’s last six games at Anfield, and he is set to operate just behind Igor Jesus, with Dan Ndoye offering legs and aggression alongside him. If Forest are to extend their recent Anfield streak, that trio will have to make the most of every scrap of possession they get.
