Penybont 1-0 Colwyn Bay: Pritchard's Impact Secures Unbeaten Run

Penybont’s season is still untouched by defeat, but this one came at a cost and with a fair amount of grit.

Rhys Griffiths’ side edged past Colwyn Bay 1-0 at home to climb to sixth in the Cymru Premier, grinding out the result after losing two key summer signings inside a bruising opening spell.

Jonathan Leko and Ryan Hill were both forced off within the first 20 minutes, a double blow that could easily have knocked the hosts off their stride. Instead, it opened the door for one of the replacements to seize the moment.

The breakthrough arrived through substitute Owain Pritchard, who reacted quickest when Bay keeper Mark Halstead misjudged a situation in his box. Pritchard was on it in a flash, stabbing home from close range to give Penybont the lead.

The pressure almost told again soon after. Veteran forward Chris Venables, still the man for a big moment, rattled the crossbar with a fierce effort that had Halstead beaten. Had it dipped an inch lower, the contest might have been over.

Colwyn Bay refused to fade. Chasing the game after the interval, they pushed higher and asked questions of a reshuffled Penybont back line. Young goalkeeper Daniel Higgs answered most of them.

Higgs stood firm to deny Callum Bratley and then Ethan Roberts as Bay hunted an equaliser, his saves growing in importance as the clock ticked down and nerves tightened around the ground.

Penybont bent but did not break. When the final whistle went, the scoreline was slim, the injury list longer, but the unbeaten start remained intact – and so did their climb up the table.
