Premier League Power Shift: United, Arsenal, City Target Key Players

The season is barely in the rear‑view mirror, but the Premier League’s heavyweights are already jostling for position. This time, the battle lines are drawn not on the pitch, but around some of Europe’s most coveted young talent.

United and Arsenal converge on Alex Scott

Two clubs, one midfielder.

Manchester United and Arsenal are both moving for Bournemouth’s Alex Scott, according to The Daily Mail, and the numbers involved tell you exactly how highly he is rated on the south coast. Any serious conversation is expected to start at around £60 million.

United’s interest is pointed. With plans in place to move on Manuel Ugarte, the midfield needs fresh legs and a different profile. Scott, 22, was a standout for Bournemouth last season, knitting play and driving Andoni Iraola’s side through the lines. The Cherries know exactly what they have; they are pushing to tie him down to a new contract rather than cashing in.

Arsenal’s presence complicates everything. Mikel Arteta has built a slick, technically precise midfield, and Scott fits that template. When two Champions League clubs share a target, the fee rarely goes down. Bournemouth, for now, can sit back and wait for someone to blink.

City eye Malo Gusto as the post‑Walker era looms

Up the road, Manchester City are planning for life after Kyle Walker. The name on their list: Malo Gusto.

Nicolo Schira reports that City have shown interest in the Chelsea right back, who cost £30 million when he arrived at Stamford Bridge in January 2023. At 23, he offers exactly what City demand from their full backs: pace, aggression and the ability to live high up the pitch.

There is another layer. Gusto could potentially reunite with former Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca, who is closing in on confirmation as Pep Guardiola’s successor. A familiar voice on the training ground, a long‑term replacement at right back, and a player already hardened by Premier League football — City’s logic is obvious.

Chelsea, though, are under no pressure to sell. That alone could turn this into a long summer story.

Liverpool, Newcastle and a race for Lille’s next export

Liverpool and Newcastle are staring at the same solution in France.

Both clubs are tracking Lille forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo, per The Daily Mail. At 21, he has already put up serious numbers: direct involvement in 13 goals across 29 Ligue 1 matches last season. Liverpool see him as a potential alternative to RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, whose €120 million valuation drags that deal into fantasy territory.

Newcastle are not watching from a distance. After beating Liverpool to Víctor Muñoz from Osasuna for €40 million, they are ready to collide again in the market. The Magpies are also reported to be monitoring FC Cologne winger Said El Mala, who has drawn interest from Brighton and Brentford, as they hunt for a replacement for Anthony Gordon following his €70 million move to Barcelona.

Newcastle need end product. Liverpool need succession planning. Lille, as so often, hold a card that everyone wants.

Villa test West Ham’s resolve over Bowen

Aston Villa’s ambition under Unai Emery shows no sign of cooling.

The Athletic reports that Villa are keen on West Ham forward Jarrod Bowen, a player Emery admires and one who has carried West Ham’s attacking threat for several seasons. The Hammers want to keep him as they chase promotion back to the Premier League, but there is a number that could change the conversation: proposals in the region of £50 million are understood to be of interest.

For a club trying to bounce straight back, losing Bowen would be a brutal blow. For Villa, who need depth and quality to sustain their rise, it would be a statement.

At the same time, Sky Sports says Villa have drawn a firm line over Morgan Rogers. Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain have all been informed that the attacking midfielder is not for sale this summer. One door slightly ajar, one slammed shut.

Real Madrid turn to Enzo Fernández

Real Madrid rarely stay still when a plan collapses.

With hopes of landing Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise fading, AS reports that Madrid have turned their attention to Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernández. The 25‑year‑old is understood to be keen on a move and has expressed a desire to live in Madrid, but Chelsea’s stance is clear: any deal would require a fee in excess of €130 million.

Madrid want another midfielder capable of dictating games at the highest level. Fernández wants a new chapter. The obstacle is enormous, and it sits on the balance sheet.

Chelsea close on Marco Palestra

On the other side of the equation, Chelsea are preparing to spend again.

ESPN sources indicate they are closing in on a deal worth around €55 million for Atlanta full back Marco Palestra. Talks are progressing, and an agreement is expected soon, even if the final fee is still being thrashed out.

Palestra, 21, comes with serious pedigree. He was named Serie A’s defender of the year after a season‑long loan at Cagliari, where he made 37 appearances and barely missed a beat. Inter Milan had been in negotiations to sign him, but Chelsea have moved aggressively to take control of the race.

For a club reshaping its back line, this would be a significant piece of business.

Julián Álvarez pushes for a move

One of the most coveted forwards in Europe has made his position clear.

Atlético Madrid striker Julián Álvarez told ESPN he wants to leave this summer, with Europe’s elite already circling. Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal have all been linked, and Real Madrid previously saw a €150 million bid rejected last month.

When a player of Álvarez’s calibre goes on the market, the entire landscape shifts. The price tag is huge, the interest even bigger. Someone will gamble.

Record-breaking move in the women’s game

While the men’s market rages, a landmark deal has quietly dropped in the women’s game.

Sweden forward Felicia Schröder has signed for Real Madrid from BK Häcken. Häcken and Schröder’s agent, Linus Gunnarsson, described it as the “biggest transfer” in women’s history, even if they declined to reveal the fee and it remains unclear whether it set a new record.

Real Madrid have made their intentions clear in the women’s game. This is a power move.
