RB Leipzig did not just lose in Lombardy. They were taken apart.

A 4-1 defeat to FC Como 1907 left captain David Raum visibly shaken and brutally honest as he tried to explain a night that spiralled away from his side.

“This feels really awful, we got a real thrashing today. The first half was terrible,” the left-back admitted, the frustration still raw in his post-match interview.

Leipzig never settled. The structure they usually lean on dissolved under Como’s tempo and clarity with the ball. Passes went astray, pressing triggers came late, and when chances did appear, they lacked conviction.

Raum did not hide behind excuses.

“The second [half was] maybe a touch better. Overall, it wasn't a good performance from us. We have to learn from this,” he said, emphasizing how far below their own standards they had fallen.

He spoke of a plan that never truly made it onto the pitch.

“We need to get together as soon as possible, we actually had a clear plan. But we weren't brave or clever enough with the ball again.

“We had the chances to play. But it wasn't sharp enough, there just wasn't enough of anything today,” the 28-year-old concluded, summing up a display that felt flat in every department.

Orban: “This game hurts a lot”

If Raum’s words carried the sting of a captain’s responsibility, Willi Orban’s assessment cut just as deep.

The experienced defender, back in the firing line after a humbling night, admitted Leipzig were second best in every meaningful phase.

“We had a reasonable game plan, but it quickly became clear that we couldn't get a grip on Como's game. This game hurts a lot today,” the 33-year-old said.

Como dictated. They moved the ball with purpose, pulled Leipzig out of shape, and attacked the final third with a clarity the visitors never matched.

“Como showed us what it means to be active with the ball, to make decisions on the ball, and to play good passes in the final third.

“We need to learn that from our opponents today; credit to them. Ultimately, our game plan didn't work out,” Orban admitted.

For Leipzig, the message from their leaders was stark: the ideas are there, but the courage, sharpness, and execution deserted them. The question now is how quickly they can turn a painful lesson in Lombardy into a response worthy of their ambitions.
