The club announced on its official channels that tests carried out by the Real Madrid Medical Services revealed a grade III sprain in Valverde’s left ankle. In their statement, the Spanish giants detailed: “Following tests performed today on our player Fede Valverde by Real Madrid Medical Services, he was diagnosed with a grade III sprain to his left ankle. Recovery time pending progression.”

A grade III sprain is no minor setback. It typically signals significant ligament damage and a spell on the sidelines, even if the club has stopped short of putting a specific date on his return.

The timing could hardly be worse. Valverde’s absence leaves a glaring hole in Madrid’s midfield ahead of a crucial stretch of fixtures, including the Champions League clash with Roma on October 14th at the Stadio Olimpico. His drive, pressing, and ability to cover huge areas of the pitch have become non-negotiable elements of Madrid’s game plan.
