Schalke Receives Fitness Boost with Gosens and Karaman's Return
With the new Bundesliga season edging closer, Schalke have finally been given a break on the injury front.
Summer signing Robin Gosens was back in the thick of it on Wednesday, taking part in large portions of full team training on 12 August. The left-sided all-rounder had picked up a thigh injury in a friendly against Hessen Kassel at the start of the month, briefly stalling his integration into the squad. Now, his recovery is clearly moving in the right direction, just in time for the final phase of preparation.
The good news did not stop there. Captain Kenan Karaman has also rejoined team training after suffering a pelvic contusion in the test against Atalanta on 8 August. His return restores both leadership and attacking versatility to the group at a crucial moment in pre-season.
One player still on the outside looking in is Junior Dina Ebimbe. The midfielder continues to work individually and will need a little more time before he can be eased back into full squad sessions.
Two key figures back, one still on the comeback trail – Schalke’s final tune-up for the new campaign suddenly looks a lot more competitive.
