Scott McTominay Out for a Month Due to Heart Surgery

Scott McTominay will be out of action for a month after Napoli confirmed the midfielder is to undergo surgery on a minor heart issue.

The Serie A club announced on Tuesday that the 29-year-old has developed a “mild, benign arrhythmia,” an irregular heartbeat that requires corrective treatment.

Napoli said McTominay will have a planned ablation procedure (PFA) in the coming days and expect him to return to club duty after the international break, easing fears of a long-term absence.

Impact on Scotland

The timing is a major blow for Scotland. McTominay is now set to miss all four of their Nations League group fixtures between September 26 and October 6 — back-to-back games against Slovenia and one each against Switzerland and North Macedonia.

For Napoli, it is a short pause in a season they expect him to shape. For Scotland, it rips a key figure out of the heart of their midfield just as the competitive calendar starts to bite.
