Syracuse Men’s Soccer Falls to Boston College 2

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Syracuse created the chances. Boston College scored the goals.

Despite peppering the Boston College net with 19 shots to the Eagles’ 8, Syracuse men’s soccer walked away with nothing to show for it in a 2–0 defeat on Friday night at Newton Campus Lacrosse and Soccer Field. The Orange pushed, probed, and piled on pressure. The scoreboard never blinked their way.

The game tilted Syracuse’s direction for long stretches, but the breakthrough came at the other end. In the 53rd minute, Michael Asare punished the visitors, putting Boston College in front and flipping the feel of the night. The Orange, already chasing their first conference win, were suddenly chasing the match as well.

Syracuse kept coming. Shots kept flying. The equalizer never arrived.

The punishment did. Russell Brown doubled the lead for Boston College, finishing off a move sparked by Moritz Gundelach, whose assist carved open the Orange resistance and gave the Eagles the cushion they wanted.

In goal for Syracuse, Kyle Jansen was called on sparingly and finished with one save, a stat that underlined the frustration of the night: Boston College didn’t need volume. Just precision.

The loss drops Syracuse to 4-3-0 overall and 0-2-0 in conference play, a record that hardly reflects the way they dictated large portions of this contest. But dominance without goals is a thin comfort in September.
