Trezeguet Out for a Month with Hamstring Tear

Al-Riyadh have confirmed that Egyptian international Mahmoud Hassan "Trezeguet" has suffered a hamstring tear that will sideline him for four weeks, dealing a sharp early-season blow to both club and country.

The Saudi side announced the news on Wednesday through their official account on X, ending any lingering hope that the winger’s injury might be minor.

The 29-year-old pulled up early in Al-Riyadh’s clash with Al-Khaleej on Monday in the sixth round of the Saudi Roshn League. He went down just 13 minutes into the match, tried to continue, then left the pitch in tears — a worrying sign that the damage was serious.

The scans have now confirmed it. A torn hamstring and a month out.

Trezeguet will return to Cairo to continue his rehabilitation under the supervision of Egypt’s national team medical staff, a move that underlines how central he remains to the Pharaohs’ plans.

Impact on National Team

For Hossam Hassan, it is a major setback.

The Egypt coach will be without one of his most trusted attacking weapons for the upcoming international camp, which starts on 17 September, ruling Trezeguet out of the opening fixtures of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Egypt host Angola on Friday 25 September at Cairo Stadium, then travel to Juba to face South Sudan on Tuesday 29 September. Two important games. No Trezeguet.

The former Aston Villa winger has long been one of Egypt’s most influential forward options, his blend of work rate, direct running and big-game experience giving balance and threat on the flanks at international level.

Now Egypt must find a way to navigate the start of their AFCON qualifying campaign without him — and hope that when he does return, the damage to their momentum is not already done.
