Thomas Tuchel’s England plans are unravelling before a ball has even been kicked in the UEFA Nations League.

The squad list is barely dry and already the doubts are stacking up. Key names are drifting towards the treatment room or the red zone, and the international break is starting to look more like a damage-limitation exercise than a fresh start.

England’s staff are wary of overloading a player who has already shouldered a heavy schedule at club level and do not want to cram more high-intensity fixtures into a tight window.

The concern doesn’t stop there.

Manchester United duo Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo are also doubts for the upcoming games. Both sit in that uncomfortable grey area: important enough that Tuchel would rather not be without them, yet close enough to the edge that any risk could backfire badly.

It leaves the England manager facing the prospect of reshaping his plans on the fly. The Nations League schedule is unforgiving, the opposition is serious, and the margin for error is thin. Tuchel wanted this camp to sharpen combinations and build rhythm.
