Villarreal Faces Familiar Collapse Against Betis

Villarreal’s night began with promise and ended with a familiar sinking feeling.

“The second half was damaging for the team and for me as a coach,” he admitted. “It affects our confidence and self-belief. Recovering from defeat is never easy, but it’s even harder when you come away with these feelings. Nevertheless, we have no option but to move forward.”

The words were calm. The message was not. Villarreal are not just losing games; they are losing themselves when the momentum turns.

Standards, scrutiny and sleepless nights

For Perez, this is now about more than shape and selection. It is about meeting the standards that the club’s supporters demand, and that he insists he shares.

The Navarrese coach underlined the need for immediate, deep tactical analysis, not as a buzzword but as a necessity if Villarreal are to drag themselves away from the wrong end of the table.

“We’re not managing to give our supporters what we want to give them and what they deserve,” he said. “We won’t sleep well tonight. We’re extremely disappointed. Tomorrow we have to regain our enthusiasm, analyse the game and work on improving so that we can find the level we’re looking for.”

There was no attempt to sugar-coat the situation. No appeal to patience or luck. Just the admission that what they are offering is not enough.

“Our idea is clear and we’ve shown it in phases during several matches,” he continued, “but I need to analyse everything very carefully to see what we must change in order to overcome this difficult spell.”

The idea is there, only in flashes. The table is unforgiving. Villarreal now face a simple question: can Perez turn those “phases” into full performances before this rocky start hardens into their season’s identity?
