Vyacheslav Surkis Faces Toughest Match as Dynamo Loses 0–3 to Bukovyna

Kyiv “Dynamo” went to Chernivtsi expecting to steady their early-season push. Instead, they walked away with a 0–3 defeat and a brutal night for their young goalkeeper, Vyacheslav Surkis.

The 20-year-old, thrust into the starting role this season, endured the toughest match of his professional career so far. He conceded twice, then left the pitch on the hour mark, visibly shaken after a pair of costly errors that helped Bukovyna to a statement win in the Ukrainian Premier League.

Early Error Sets the Tone

Surkis, the son of former Ukrainian Football Federation President Hryhoriy Surkis and nephew of Dynamo president Ihor Surkis, kept his place in goal for the “White-and-Blues” from the opening whistle. The club’s academy product had been promoted to the starting XI after Ruslan Neshcheret’s injury and had strung together six straight matches, including his debut in the Europa League qualifiers against PAOK.

But in Chernivtsi, the pressure bit early.

In the 12th minute, with the ball bouncing dangerously inside his own box, Surkis failed to clear under pressure. Bukovyna pounced. One misjudged action, one heavy touch, and Dynamo were behind. The mistake rattled both goalkeeper and team, and Bukovyna sensed vulnerability.

Dynamo tried to regroup after the interval, but the second half began with more punishment for their young keeper.

In the 54th minute, a cross from the flank swung into the Dynamo area. Surkis attacked the ball in the air, colliding in a duel with Busko. He failed to secure it, and the ball crossed the line. The match report later logged the incident as an own goal by the Dynamo goalkeeper, a harsh but accurate reflection of the moment.

The second mistake cut deep. Surkis stayed on the field, but the tension around him grew. Cameras later picked up footage of the 20-year-old turning toward the bench, gesturing as if to initiate a conversation about a possible substitution.

Six minutes later, the change came. In the 60th minute, the Dynamo coaching staff replaced him with Illia Olkhovyi. For a keeper trying to cement his place, it was a painful end to the evening.

Dynamo Stumble Again

The 0–3 loss left Dynamo stuck in sixth place in the UPL table. They remain on six points from three matches, a return that looks respectable on paper but feels far less convincing given the scale of this defeat.

Kostyuk’s side had already exited European competition earlier in the season, their Europa League hopes cut short despite Surkis’s early run of games. Now, with domestic form stuttering and a young goalkeeper under the spotlight, the questions around this Dynamo project are only growing louder.
