De Zerbi Promises Another Bomba as Spurs Continue Transfer Spree

Tottenham’s summer of swagger in the transfer market is not over yet. Roberto De Zerbi says there is still “another bomba” to come – and he plans to hunt it down “like a shark”.

Spurs have already ripped up their own financial limits. They smashed their transfer record to prise Mateus Fernandes from West Ham for £85 million, then went even higher to land Sandro Tonali from Newcastle in a deal that could rise to £100m. Those are the kind of numbers that usually belong to the continent’s superclubs. This summer, they belong to Tottenham.

The rebuild has not stopped there. Jan Paul van Hecke has arrived from Brighton to bolster the back line, with Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi added on free transfers to deepen a squad that suddenly looks far more ruthless on paper. Brazilian winger Savinho, currently at Manchester City, is also on the radar, underlining just how aggressive Spurs have become in the market.

For De Zerbi, this is not just recruitment. It is a project.

“The transfer market, it’s not finished for sure,” he said, as reported by The Athletic. “We have completed 60% of our project in the transfer market. Now we have another bomba.”

On social media, “bomba” has become the word fans reach for when a deal explodes out of nowhere – the shock signing, the headline grabber. De Zerbi knows exactly what he is doing by using it. He is feeding the anticipation, stoking the noise around a club trying to step into a new tier.

Is that “bomba” close? He would not overplay it, but he did not cool expectations either. “I hope, but it’s not finished, for sure,” he added.

This is where his own personality comes into sharp focus. De Zerbi is not shy about how he operates when he has identified his man.

“In the transfer market, when I want one player, I become like a shark,” he said. “No chance to say no. I love working in the transfer market. It’s not pressure, it’s one of the nicest parts of my work, my job.”

It is a striking image: a head coach who sees the window not as a chore but as a hunt. Spurs have already seen that edge in play, not least in the way they have moved quickly and decisively for key targets while rivals hesitate.

There are still questions around the squad, from the futures of younger talents to how all these new pieces will fit once the real games start. De Zerbi has already made it clear, in the case of players like Bergvall, that he will not beg anyone to stay. Tottenham, in his mind, are heading in one direction only. You are either on board or you are not.

Preseason has already thrown up its own drama, with Spurs needing a penalty shootout to get past Sydney FC in a friendly, a reminder that assembling a starrier cast is only half the battle. The chemistry, the structure, the balance – that all comes next.

For now, though, the mood around the club is defined by that one word. Bomba.
