RUSG Striker Fuseini Victim of Violent Robbery in Brussels

The attack on RUSG forward Fuseini was as sudden as it was shocking, and it was all caught on a mobile phone.

Walking back to his car in Brussels with team-mates, the striker was set upon in what police have described as a violent robbery. A fellow player, a few steps behind, filmed the assault. That footage, grim but crucial, allowed officers to move fast and identify the alleged attackers.

The club moved quickly to reassure worried supporters. In a statement, they did not hide their disgust at what had happened: the scenes from Sunday were “particularly disturbing”, they said, confirming that Fuseini had gone to hospital for checks. He received “excellent care” from the Brussels police, who were singled out for praise, and the update everyone inside the club wanted followed: his injuries were minor, and he was back in training the next day.

Behind the scenes, the investigation accelerated. The Brussels Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that a 23-year-old suspect has been remanded in custody at Haren prison after stolen items were recovered at his home. Their description of the incident underlined its seriousness: three people “fell victim to a violent robbery” on their way to their vehicle, with several assailants attacking them and taking valuables including watches, phones and personal belongings.

The suspect faces charges of gang robbery with violence. His lawyer, Samuel Rosenblatt, confirmed his client’s detention and the nature of the accusations, adding that he could not comment further while the judicial investigation continues. He did, however, state that his client recognises the gravity of what happened and regrets it.

Prosecutors have requested an investigating judge and formally charged the man, who reportedly has no previous criminal record, on counts of violent gang robbery. Two of the three victims suffered injuries serious enough to cause a temporary incapacity for work, underlining that this was no opportunistic snatch-and-grab.

For Fuseini, the episode lands at the end of a punishing stretch in his career. A popular voice in the dressing room and a reliable presence on the pitch, he has scored 14 goals in 71 appearances for RUSG and is tied to the club until 2028. Yet the 2025-26 season has already tested him: muscle, ankle and hamstring problems kept him out for 25 matches across 145 days.

Just when he was edging back towards rhythm, an off-field trauma arrived to knock him sideways again.

He is back at the training ground now, back in his routine, surrounded by team-mates who know how much he has already had to fight just to stay on the pitch. The physical damage this time is light. The question, as the season wears on, is how quickly the rest will heal.
