Liverpool 2026 Preseason Details: Schedule, Results, and Plans Under Andoni Iraola

The 2026/27 season will see Liverpool under new leadership as Andoni Iraola prepares the squad for an intense campaign. The preseason kicks off with a tour across the United States, following the excitement of the 2026 FIFA World Cup hosted in North America.

During their US tour, the Reds will visit Nashville, New York City, and Chicago, aiming to regain match fitness and give minutes to players before the Premier League opener. Some members of the squad who took part in the World Cup need time to recover, while others are eager to start the season sharp.

Preseason Matches and Results So Far

Liverpool started their preseason with a 4-2 victory over Sunderland at GEODIS Park in Nashville on July 25. Goals came from Dominik Szoboszlai and Federico Chiesa around halftime, with promising young talents Kieran Morris and Lewis Koumas also scoring.

Next up is a fixture against Wrexham at Yankee Stadium in New York City on July 29. Following that, Leeds United awaits at Soldier Field in Chicago on August 2.

*There will be two matches against Como on August 16: one behind closed doors early in the morning and another open to fans in the afternoon. This double-header approach has been part of Liverpool's preseason routine recently.

Locations for Liverpool’s Preseason Games

Out of five preseason fixtures, three will be played in the United States, covering New York City and Chicago. The team will then return to England for two matches at Anfield. The Como games include one private and one public match, continuing a pattern seen in previous seasons like last August’s double-header against Athletic Club.

World Cup Players’ Return and Readiness

Players who participated in the World Cup get 21 days of rest after their tournament ends. Seven Liverpool players were involved in the World Cup, including three Dutch internationals: Ryan Gravenberch, Cody Gakpo, and Virgil van Dijk. They should rejoin training by late July and travel with the team to the United States, expected to be ready for the Chicago friendly.

Goalkeeper Alisson, despite summer transfer speculation, appears set to stay and follows the same schedule. Alexis Mac Allister, who reached the final with Argentina, won’t return until later August and might miss some early-season matches to recover from his demanding summer.

Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, whose teams exited early, have already rejoined Liverpool and will build up their conditioning soon.

Opening Premier League Fixtures for 2026/27

The season starts away at Newcastle United on Sunday, August 23, kicking off at 4:30 p.m. local time (11:30 a.m. ET). Afterward, Liverpool alternate between home and away games, with their first back-to-back home matches arriving in late October against Brighton & Hove Albion and Arsenal.
