Liverpool Eyes Rayan as Summer Winger Target

Liverpool have moved a step closer to a potential summer reshuffle in attack after agreeing personal terms “in principle” with Bournemouth winger Rayan, should the south-coast club decide to cash in on the Brazilian.

The agreement, understood to be conditional on Bournemouth’s willingness to sell, underlines how firmly the 19-year-old has forced his way onto Liverpool’s shortlist after an eye-catching introduction to the Premier League. Rayan produced seven goal contributions – five goals and two assists – in just 15 league appearances during his first half-season in England, a return that turned heads in a campaign that often suffocated wide players.

This was a year when the league tilted towards muscle and set-pieces, when creative wingers found less space and less protection. Rayan cut through that trend. Operating predominantly from the right, he carried a threat that belied his age, attacking full-backs with conviction and end product rather than simply raw promise.

Liverpool’s recruitment team has noticed. A well-placed source on X (formerly Twitter) has urged supporters to monitor the situation closely, with the club also pushing hard for Bradley Barcola at PSG. The two pursuits are running in parallel, and that is no coincidence. Liverpool know their wide options need attention.

The question is how bold they can afford to be.

Rayan, Barcola… but not both

Inside the club, there is admiration for both Rayan and Barcola, but realism is setting the boundaries. The expectation is clear: Liverpool are highly unlikely to land both players in the same window.

This is not about a lack of desire to strengthen. It is about budget. Last summer’s heavy outlay, which delivered record-breaking deals for Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak, set a high bar. That level of spending is not expected to be repeated in the current market, with the club operating under tighter financial parameters and conscious of the need to spread resources across the squad.

At the same time, Liverpool must also ensure Andoni Iraola is given the depth he needs ahead of the 2026/27 season. The squad cannot be built solely around marquee signings on the wings, however exciting they may be.

Within that context, Barcola is believed to sit at the top of Richard Hughes’ list. The PSG winger is viewed as a primary target, and Liverpool are understood to have a plan ready should negotiations with the French champions open up. Rayan, then, shapes up as a serious alternative – or potentially the more attainable option if PSG dig in over Barcola’s future.

A market thinning out

Liverpool’s urgency is sharpened by the state of the market. High-end wide forwards are disappearing fast.

Yan Diomande, whose development has accelerated after a year in Germany, has drawn significant attention and is now reportedly closing in on a move to Real Madrid. PSG, meanwhile, are actively working on a deal for Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche, another versatile attacking option who had been on several elite clubs’ radars.

Those moves matter. They narrow the field. With Diomande Madrid-bound and Akliouche in PSG’s sights, Liverpool’s alternatives quickly become less glamorous and more speculative. Miss out on both Rayan and Barcola, and the conversation shifts to names such as Yankuba Minteh and Matias Fernandez-Pardo – talents with upside, certainly, but not operating at the same level of readiness or profile.

That is the tightrope Liverpool are walking. Rayan may not yet carry the same intrigue or polish as a Diomande, whose time in Germany has fast-tracked his reputation, but the Brazilian has already proved he can handle the Premier League’s intensity. For a 19-year-old, that matters.

The groundwork is now in place. Personal terms are agreed “in principle”, the admiration is genuine, and the market is moving quickly around them. The next move belongs to Bournemouth – and to PSG.
