Newcastle United Target Wilfried Singo with €40 Million Bid

Newcastle United have spent the summer looking ahead, stacking the squad with youth and potential. The rebuild under Matthias Jaissle has been deliberate, measured, clearly long-term. But with the window ticking towards its Sept. 1 deadline, the club’s next defensive move could be its boldest yet.

Newcastle test Galatasaray resolve over Singo

Full-back Amar Dedic is already through the door, set to bolster the right flank of Jaissle’s back line. That hasn’t slowed the links to centre-backs, though, as Newcastle continue to scan the market for reinforcements at the heart of defence.

Now comes a new twist.

Turkish outlet Fanatik reported on Tuesday that Newcastle have approached Galatasaray with a €40 million (£34.5 million) bid for Wilfried Singo, the Ivory Coast international who has quickly become one of the Turkish champions’ key defensive assets.

“Newcastle United, a Premier League team, has officially entered the race for the 25-year-old versatile player,” Fanatik reported, adding that, according to Sabah, the English club “allegedly approached Galatasaray with a record-breaking transfer fee offer of 40 million euros.”

Singo only arrived at Galatasaray last summer from Monaco for around €30 million (£25.9 million). One season later, Newcastle’s reported proposal would already hand the Istanbul club a sizeable profit.

Galatasaray are not biting. Not yet.

The same reports suggest the Turkish champions are aiming far higher, seeking a fee closer to €60 million (£51.3 million) before even thinking about a sale. With Singo under contract until 2030, they believe time and leverage are firmly on their side.

“Galatasaray management is not rushing into a decision regarding the star central defender, who has a long-term contract with the club until 2030,” Fanatik noted.

A long-standing target, a complex decision

Newcastle’s interest did not suddenly appear this week. The Magpies were first linked with Singo more than a year ago, back when he was still at Monaco and valued at around €25 million. That figure has dipped slightly to €23 million now, but his profile has grown, and his versatility has become even more appealing.

Singo can play centrally or at right-back. For Jaissle, that kind of flexibility is gold: one signing, two roles covered, and a smoother transition as the club try to refresh an ageing defence without ripping it apart in one go.

There is a catch.

Right-back is already strengthened by the arrival of Dedic. Centre-back, too, is not exactly empty. So Newcastle would be paying a premium fee for a player who, at least initially, might be cover in two positions rather than an undisputed starter.

Is €40 million smart business for that profile? Or is this the moment to walk away unless Galatasaray lower their demands?

Newcastle have made their move. Galatasaray have set their stance. The gap between €40 million and €60 million is where this story now lives.

The question is simple: do the Magpies push harder for Singo, hold firm on their valuation, or turn to the next name on an increasingly urgent defensive shortlist?
