Peter Shalulile Joins Young Africans: A New Chapter in Tanzania

Peter Shalulile has chosen a familiar face and a new frontier.

The Namibia international, fresh from ending a glitter-stacked six-year spell with Mamelodi Sundowns, has decided his next move will not be to North Africa or the Middle East, but to Tanzania’s powerhouse, Young Africans – and to Manqoba Mngqithi.

For weeks, the 32-year-old’s future sat at the centre of a continental tug of war. As a free agent, his goals and experience drew interest from clubs across Africa and the Gulf, with a reunion with former Sundowns head coach Rhulani Mokwena at Pyramids FC widely viewed as the most likely outcome.

Then he went the other way.

Instead of Cairo, Shalulile has opted for Dar es Salaam. Instead of Mokwena, he has chosen Mngqithi, who recently took charge of Young Africans and is now building his own statement project there.

It is not a blind leap. Mngqithi and Shalulile know exactly what they are getting in each other. The pair shared several highly successful seasons together at Chloorkop, where Sundowns turned domestic dominance into a habit and Shalulile grew into one of the most feared forwards on the continent.

Now they link up again, this time with different colours, a different league, and the same expectation: win, and win a lot.
