Rangers in Talks with Al Taawoun for Nedim Bajrami Loan

Rangers are in advanced talks to move Nedim Bajrami out of Ibrox this summer, with Saudi Pro League club Al Taawoun pushing to take the midfielder on loan with a view to a permanent deal.

The Albania international arrived from Sassuolo in August 2024, billed as a creative option who could add guile to the Rangers midfield. The fit never quite came. Bajrami, now 27, struggled to nail down a place and finished last season with just 12 Scottish Premiership appearances to his name.

For a player in his prime, that tells its own story.

Derek McInnes has already made it clear that Bajrami is not part of his plans as he reshapes the squad. The Albanian is among several players told they are free to find a new club as Rangers push through a major recruitment drive before the window closes.

Space needs to be created. Wages need to be cleared. Bajrami sits near the top of that list.

Interest has been building quietly. Earlier this month, Ibrox News reported that clubs in Italy and Turkey were monitoring his situation, aware that he had slipped down the pecking order in Glasgow and could be available at the right price.

Now the picture is sharper.

Sunsport report that Al Taawoun have stepped forward and are in discussions over an initial loan, with a future fee understood to be around £2.5million. That structure would allow Rangers to move the player off the books immediately while retaining the prospect of a reasonable return if the deal becomes permanent.

Talks are ongoing, with other clubs said to be watching closely and ready to move if negotiations stall. For Rangers, though, a clean exit to Saudi Arabia would tick several boxes: a player surplus to requirements moved on, a pathway cleared for new signings, and a fee that helps underpin McInnes’ rebuild.

For Bajrami, it could be a much-needed reset. A year after arriving at Ibrox with expectation on his shoulders, he stands on the brink of a very different challenge in a league that has become a magnet for players seeking a fresh start and a new stage.

If Al Taawoun get their man, his Rangers chapter will close quickly and quietly. The question now is whether this move unlocks the next phase of McInnes’ overhaul – and how many more from that dressing room will follow him out of the door before the window slams shut.
