Real Madrid Eyes Surprise Move for Arsenal Midfielder Martin Zubimendi

Real Madrid has reignited its pursuit of Arsenal midfielder Martin Zubimendi after manager Jose Mourinho gave the green light for a possible summer transfer. The Spanish international, who played a key role in Arsenal’s recent Premier League success, could be on the move back to Spain.

Backing from Mourinho

According to reports from TEAMtalk, Mourinho supports signing the 27-year-old holding midfielder, seeing him as an ideal reinforcement for the midfield. Talks between the clubs have already started, and Zubimendi's representatives have shown interest in the idea of a move to Madrid.

Uncertainty Surrounding Arsenal’s Stance

Arsenal is not actively looking to sell Zubimendi but would entertain offers if they are convincing enough. The Sun has stated that manager Mikel Arteta wants to keep the player unless an extraordinary offer arrives. If Zubimendi pushes for the transfer himself, Arteta may face a tough decision soon.

Midfield Depth Sparks Speculation

Zubimendi was pivotal last season, but his place is less certain now following Arsenal's £75 million signing of Bruno Guimaraes. With midfielders like Declan Rice, Martin Odegaard, Mikel Merino, and Guimaraes all competing, Arsenal has strong depth. Letting go of a World Cup winner after only one season is risky.

Real Madrid renewed their interest especially after missing out on Rodri. Mourinho wants more control in midfield and views Zubimendi as essential if Eduardo Camavinga leaves Santiago Bernabeu.

Negotiating Power Lies with Arsenal

Arsenal holds all the cards financially since Zubimendi is under a lucrative long-term contract. There’s no rush to accept anything less than a big offer. The club aims to defend its Premier League title and chase Champions League success, so selling a key player just because there is more squad depth would be counterproductive.

Real Madrid will need to come up with a significant proposal well beyond what Arsenal initially invested. Without that, keeping Zubimendi is a priority for the north London side.
