Rangers Seen as 'Bigger Club Than Tottenham' Amid Mikey Moore Transfer Uncertainty

Colin Hendry, speaking to GOAL, described Rangers as a "bigger club than Tottenham," yet the Old Firm side faces challenges in securing a return for young talent Mikey Moore. The promising forward made a strong impression during his loan at Ibrox last season, but Spurs appear ready to send him elsewhere before the summer transfer deadline of 2026.

Moore's Impact During Loan Spell

Moore joined Rangers shortly before turning 18, already holding the record as the youngest player to feature for Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League at 16 years and 277 days. While regarded as a top prospect in north London, limited playing opportunities due to Spurs’ recent struggles have led to his temporary move to Scotland.

During the 2025-26 season, Moore took advantage of regular game time at Rangers, appearing in 47 matches and scoring seven goals. This exposure offered him valuable experience under significant pressure.

Uncertain Future and Managerial Changes

A possible second spell at Ibrox has been suggested, especially since Derek McInnes took over managerial duties. Rangers have struggled at the start of the 2026-27 season, failing to win any of their first three games, and could benefit from Moore’s creativity. Yet, no agreement has been reached.

Ex-Defender Hendry Weighs In on Situation

“Watching Rangers over the past three games, it’s clear Derek is supported but things haven’t gone well so far,” Hendry told GOAL. “Mikey Moore would be a welcome addition. At 19, he’s experienced playing abroad and for what I see as a bigger club—Rangers—than Tottenham.”

Hendry acknowledged that many might disagree, given Tottenham’s Premier League status. He noted Spurs' recent finishes near the bottom of the table, suggesting they may not currently qualify as a top-six team. Still, he questioned whether Moore can establish himself at Spurs or if another path might suit him better.

Potential Bundesliga Move on the Horizon

Speculation surrounds Moore's next destination, with a move to German side Cologne considered likely. Hendry sees value in exposing young players to varied experiences abroad, praising Germany’s passionate fanbase and competitive league environment.

“The club can only offer options to young players, especially those not guaranteed first-team spots,” Hendry said. “Every young player believes they can play regularly, but decisions depend on coaches, squad depth, and player qualities. Moving to Italy, Spain, or Germany would be an incredible experience.”

He added that while Rangers would be happy to bring Moore back, such a reunion seems unlikely at present.

Transfer Deadlines and Next Steps

The Scottish transfer window closes on September 3, slightly later than England’s deadline, giving Derek McInnes some time to add reinforcements. Meanwhile, Tottenham is expected to finalize Moore’s future soon, ahead of their Premier League campaign kickoff, with another move anticipated before the month ends.
